Old, young, weak, strong, they are there and suffering. The document is the translation of a press note regarding a hearing held by the Hon'ble Lokayukta  on December 8, 2025 , concerning the menace of street dogs within the limits of the five Corporations (Palikes)  under the Greater Bengaluru Authority. The hearing was attended by Animal Husbandry officials from all five corporations. The Lokayukta directed the officials to implement certain reform measures, warning that strict action would be taken against defaulting government employees. 🐕 Key Actions and Directives Comprehensive Report:  The Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry for the Greater Bengaluru Authority submitted a detailed report on the measures taken regarding Animal Birth Control & Anti-Rabies Vaccination for the years 2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025. Segregated Dogs:  The report, which covers all five Corporations, states that 139 ferocious/people-biting dogs  have been segregated and kept in shelters. Supreme Court Order Compliance:  Actions are being taken to comply with the Hon'ble Supreme Court's order. The Chief Secretary of Karnataka has instructed all institutions in the state to comply with the Supreme Court's order by December 20, 2025 , and submit a compliance report through a certificate. Identified Institutions:  The Deputy Director noted that 7617 institutions  have been identified across the five Corporations. Safety of Shelter Dogs:  A concern was raised regarding the death of two dogs  kept in a shelter home within the East Corporation's limits. The officials were advised to ensure the safety and security  of the dogs placed in shelter homes. A report on the actions taken for this must be submitted at the next hearing. 🏥 Dog Bite Cases Reported (Last Three Months) Corporation (Palike) /Dog Bite Cases Reported/ Specific Details/Actions North 44 No cases of troubles from Rabies were reported. One person, Mr. Veeresh, who suffered multiple bites, was treated at a government hospital and has fully recovered. The Corporation is taking action to reimburse the hospital expenses  incurred by bite victims. South 68 Action is being taken to identify shelter homes and segregate/care for such dogs, as per the Supreme Court's order. A shelter is under construction in Bingapura . No serious bite cases or Rabies cases were reported. South (Zone-2) 26 Four  ferocious dogs have been segregated and placed in a shelter. The shelter being built in Bingapura will also serve Zone-1 and Zone-2 of the South Corporation. West (Zone-1) 32 No serious cases were reported, and the Corporation is providing all necessary support to the victims. West (Zone-2) 31 No serious cases were reported, and the Corporation is providing all necessary support to the victims. The Chief Animal Husbandry Officer of the West Corporation stated that site identification for shelter homes is in progress. Central 32 No serious cases were reported. Three sites  have been identified for constructing shelter homes. East 41 Two dogs kept in a shelter home have died. The officials present were directed to submit a detailed report on the actions taken based on the day's order. The next hearing  is scheduled for February 26, 2026 .
