Subject: Request for status quo - to protect beloved community dogs at Vidhana Soudha and Legislators’ Home
Thank you for the constructive discussion at the ABC Monitoring Committee meeting last week. We understand that shelters arebeing constructed and that systems, orders, and officers are being put in place, and you would like our active support and involvement- we will certainly make a site visit.
However, as mentioned during the meeting, it is important that before any changes are made or decisions taken, the SPCA member on the Corporation Committee is informed and that their advice and input are sought.
We understand that the community dogs at Vidhana Soudha, Legislators’ Home, and the surrounding area may be viewed as a point of concern by a few., post the recent Supreme Court orders. However, we are glad to note that the GBA team has made clear that there is no current focus or effort to relocate the dogs from this area. We would therefore like to reiterate that this status quo continues.
There are currently only 54 dogs in the area these dogs have been neutered, fed and cared for by us for over 8-10 years at our personal cost. Therefore, there have been no pups for the last three years. They are calm, well cared for, neutered, vaccinated, medicated and even hospitalized when required, and collared whenever possible They live in harmony with the surroundings, are beloved by most visitors, and have not caused any problem to anyone. Many of them have been known to regulars since they were puppies and have grown up on the premises.
Several of the dogs are now older, having lived there for seven to ten years, and mostly sleep or rest quietly in corners. Recently, two of them were brought back after over a a month of treatment at CARE, where they received medical attention, including treatment for kidney-related issues. They may not last long, so we take special care.
The situation is currently being managed responsibly, efficiently and peacefully by regular daily feeders, and members of the public, staff, and even police on the premises. Since all the dogs are neutered, there are no puppies on the premises and no possibility of an increase in population.
We therefore request that compassion be exercised in this matter, especially given that this is a high-profile, visible location with a long-standing, peaceful community of dogs who are well cared for by local feeders. We respectfully request that no harm, relocation, or stress be caused to these dogs.
